Grand Funk commonly known as The Red Album is the second studio album by American rock band Grand Funk Railroad. The album was released in December 1969 by Capitol Records, just four months after their debut On Time. It was produced by Terry Knight and engineered by Ken Hamann. The album was certified gold by the RIAA, the first for the group. It includes a cover of The Animals' Inside Looking Out which is still a cornerstone of the band's live concerts today. Grand Hotel is the sixth studio album by Procol Harum. Released in 1973, it signalled a change of direction for the band. Guitarist Dave Ball who had joined the band for their live album the previous year left shortly after the photo shoot for the proposed album's cover to be replaced by Mick Grabham. Grabham's head was superimposed on the front and back cover of the album on Ball's body. Although the band had gone through significant personnel changes in previous years, the band would enter its most. Check out my Grand Funk Railroad cover Funk Railroad's 1970 somewhat eponymous album, their second for Capitol, is characteristic of the classic rock radio sound that would permeate the airwaves of the late 20th century. Grand Funk Railroad was a seminal force in giving the friendlier side of the heavy rock sound its charm and making it stick. Built on fuzzed-out blues riffs, simple lyrics, and at times seemingly unnecessary jamming, Grand Funk's songs are mild in nature. Far less extreme than Black Sabbath, but slightly toothier than Foghat or Bad Company, Grand Funk's major influence is from the loose, blues-. Listen album. Hard Rock. Grand Funk Railroad. Grand Funk Railroad released 'Live Album' on Nov. 16, 1970, capitalizing on three previous hit studio projects. After bursting onto the music scene in 1969 with their rock-solid debut On Time , Grand Funk Railroad rapidly started turning heads and ears to their bare-boned, no-frills hard rock and roll. Those ears they turned, however, were not those of your local music critic, but rather of your everyday rock fan. The tag of people's band stuck for a reason: critics be damned, the fans loved 'em. Both On Time , and the follow-up simply titled Grand Funk , were released in 1969 and both made good showings, their debut hitting Top 30 and the sophomore just missing Top 10
