Black, Brown and Beautiful is an album by American jazz composerarranger Oliver Nelson featuring performances by a big band recorded in 1969 and first released on the Flying Dutchman label. Selections from the album were released on Nelson's 1976 compilation A Dream Deferred while the title was also used for the CD rerelease of Johnny Hodges album 3 Shades of Blue. Oliver Nelson 1932-1975 was a U. jazz saxophonist, composer, and bandleader. Nelson was born on 4th June 1932 in St Louis, Missouri. His family was musical: his brother was a saxophonist who played with Cootie Williams in the 1940s, and his sister sang and played piano.
